I know, I know...
I've been pretty heads down and not blogging quite as much as I normally do. 2013 is all about ACTION, that's my "One Word" for this year.
So what have I been doing?
I've got three editing projects underway. Two are full manuscripts and one is a sample edit to give the author an opportunity to see whether we will work well together. One of those full edits keeps morphing into more than we originally thought it would be, but that's not a bad thing. It has the possibility of turning into a three-book editing project.
Naturally, I'm also reading. I can honestly say I've read more e-books so far this year than books in print. And that's likely the way things will continue. I'm requesting manuscripts for editing or review in e-book format, and if not, in pdf, which I can easily convert to Kindle format. Hey, I'll even take the good ole MS Word doc, easily convertible into pdf which is then easily convertible into Kindle's mobi format. Having my reading/work at my fingertips helps tremendously with productivity.
Except I still don't own a Kindle! (or any other e-reader)
But I soon will because...
...I WON A KINDLE!
Author Julie Lessman had a contest back in December on her blog. Julie's one of my favorite historical romance writers. I hadn't been over to her blog in a bit, but I popped in one day, likely after seeing a blurb about the contest on Facebook, and I left a comment.
Imagine my surprise to learn that I'd won! I'd been planning to purchase at least one Kindle Fire since my boys are now reading e-books (on my phone) too. The version of Kindle that I won is a black-and-white one, with ads, I think, but I'm fine with that. Any Kindle is better than no Kindle, especially now that I know how to convert docs and add them to my Kindle library. Just means I still have to buy a color Kindle for the boys. I'm most looking forward to being able to better organize my Kindle books, something that can't be done via the Android app on my smartphone.
I also won a slew of books. Since they're in print, it might be a while before I get to them, though.
What else have I been up to?
The usual stuff this time of year. Varsity high school basketball. Most Honorable Son Number One graduates this year--the managing of which, what with college apps, financial aid apps, school visits, yearbook ads, graduation announcements, Senior Night, prom, etc.--is nearly a full-time job in itself--but right now, he's got his heart set on going for a second straight state championship. Until last weekend's tournament, his team was undefeated, but they still only have one loss. They're focused and prepared. I'm the unofficial videographer, taping every game, which means I'm at every game, as well as his blog editor.
Doesn't he look focused and determined?
That's the doings for just one of the three.
So life is busy.
I'm reading, editing and baking, not necessarily in that order. I'll be blogging too.
ACTION...
Peace & Blessings,
Patricia
Stay focused. Be deliberate. Believe.
