In celebration of Black History Month, for the remainder of this week and all of next week through Feb 28th, I'll feature one Christian fiction author each day who publishes stories featuring characters and culture steeped in the black community.
Our first author on parade is Wanda B. Campbell.
From her bio, "Wanda B. Campbell is an extraordinary and talented writer who brings creativity, a new sense of hope, and restoration through the healing power of God to the Kingdom, by way of Christian fiction. She uses real life everyday issues to exhort, motivate, and give comfort."Through her fiction, Campbell seeks to "encourage everyone to experience the unfailing love of Christ." The theme of her fiction and her ministry is liberation, liberation for all races, ages, sexes, denominations and more.
An avid reader since childhood, Campbell decided to put pen to paper to write her own stories. In 2007, she self-published her debut novel, First Sunday, gaining national recognition and launching her literary career.
Around the same time, Campbell's writing was included in an anthology, The Midnight Clear, with her short story, "Mommy's Present". She won the Crusin' for Christ I Short Story Contest with "Illusions", landing a multi-book deal with Urban Christian. Currently, Campbell writes for two publishing houses with seven novels in print and electronic format. Her award-winning titles include: Illusions: The Novel; Right Package, Wrong Baggage; Silver Lining; Kayla’s Redemption; Unresolved Issues; and Liberation. She has two more titles scheduled for release in 2013 beginning with Doin' Me (May 2013).
Campbell is a two-time winner of The Urban Reviews Top Shelf Book Award, a two-time winner of Coffee Time Romance’s Critical Review Award, and a three-time Black Expressions Book Club Bestselling Author. She has appeared on BCNN1/BCBC National Bestselling Lists multiple times and was nominated in the Christian Fiction category for the 2011 African American Literary Awards Show.
In addition to writing, Campbell leads an annual "So You Think You Want to Write A Book" Workshop. This year's workshop will be convened this spring in Vacaville, Ca.
A native of Oakland , CA, Campbell graduated from Castlemont High School (Go Knights!) and Western Career College. In addition to building a career in healthcare, she completed Christian Ministry studies at the Leadership Institute at Allen Temple and is currently pursuing her Bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies.
Campbell is a mother of three and currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with her family where she enjoys spending time with her grandson. Her hobbies include writing and reading, traveling, and collecting magnets from around the world, and she is the self-proclaimed biggest Oakland A's fan.
